Terms of Service

1. What Speechcap is

Speechcap (“the Service”) is a macOS application provided by Speechcap Labs (“we”, “us”) that captures your speech, transcribes it, optionally cleans it up using AI, and inserts the resulting text into the macOS app you're focused on.

2. Account, subscription, and billing

Speechcap offers a Free tier with no account required for basic dictation, and a paid Pro tier that requires an account.

• Free tier: 2,000 transcribed words per calendar month, no card required, no commitment.
• Pro tier: $3–$6 per month (price varies by country, set at signup). Billed monthly via Polar. Cancel anytime from your account dashboard or by emailing us.
• Pro trial: A 14-day free trial of Pro is offered to new accounts without requiring a credit card up-front. At the end of the trial, the account reverts to Free unless you explicitly upgrade.
• Refunds:If Speechcap doesn't work for you in the first 14 days of paid subscription, email hello@speechcap.com for a full refund. No questions, no friction.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Speechcap to transcribe audio you don't have legal rights to (e.g. recordings of someone without their consent in jurisdictions that require it).
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the proprietary parts of the application beyond what macOS's normal user permissions allow.
• Use Speechcap to generate content that violates applicable laws (e.g. harassment, illegal threats, fraud).
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially distribute Speechcap or modified copies of it without our written permission.
• Circumvent the Free-tier word quota through automated means.

4. Your content

You retain full ownership of everything you dictate and everything Speechcap produces from your dictation. We claim no rights to your audio, your transcripts, or the cleaned-up text. On Pro's on-device engine, those things never reach us anyway. See our privacy policy for the full breakdown.

5. Service availability

We aim for high uptime on the cloud transcription path and on the account / billing systems. We don't offer a formal SLA on the Free tier. On Pro, scheduled maintenance windows are announced in-app. If Pro is unavailable to you for more than 24 contiguous hours, you can request a pro-rated refund for that month.

On-device mode is independent of our servers.If you're using Pro's on-device engine, Speechcap keeps working even when our servers don't.

6. Termination

You can stop using Speechcap and delete your account at any time. We may terminate or suspend your account if you violate the acceptable-use rules above; in that case, you'll be refunded any unused portion of a Pro subscription.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Speechcap is provided “as is.” We don't warrant that it will be perfectly accurate or error-free — speech recognition is probabilistic, and AI cleanup can occasionally produce wrong output. Always proofread before sending anything important.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of Speechcap is limited to the amount you've paid us in the preceding 12 months. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India (where Speechcap Labs is based). Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Surat, Gujarat. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction with stronger local consumer-protection laws, those laws apply where they conflict with this clause.

9. Changes to these terms

If we change anything material in these terms, we'll update the “Last reviewed” date at the top and notify active Pro subscribers by email. Continued use after a notified change constitutes acceptance.
